An employee of Geisinger Medical Center is dead following a shooting last evening in the medical center parking lot, according to a press release by the Montour County Coroner's office.

According to the release, Vikki Wetzel, 49, of Berwick, PA was returning to her car after her shift when she was shot.

The press release states that the shooting occurred at 5:04 p.m. according to audio captured by a private residence's security system.

According to the release, security footage revealed that the suspect fled the scene in a dark SUV believed to be a Ford Edge.

The release also states that a press release by Columbia County Coroner Jeremy Reese concerning the person of interest will be released soon.

According to the coroner, an autopsy is being scheduled with Forensic Pathology Associates of Allentown.

The coroner also states there is no danger to the public.
